Production
Steve’s Real Food is made at dedi8cated facility in Aumsville, OR, under the most rigorous quality control standards.
All the ingredients are, of course, human quality. The vegetables and fruit are fresh; probably fresher than one can find in most grocery stores.
We finely chop the vegetables and fruits, breaking the cell walls, to allow the dog or cat to fully digest the nutrients. This simulates the chewing of the pet’s prey. We then mix the vegetables with the meat, finely crushed bones, and our special nutrient blend, form the food into nuggets, and flash freeze (instant quick frozen at –50 Degrees Fahrenheit) the nuggets immediately to lock in freshness, nutrition and taste.
Heat is the number one enemy of nutrition. The warmer the food, the faster the nutrients degrade. Steve’s Real Food is made in a refrigerated room, and all the meat and vegetables are kept below 27 degrees F at all times.
Our food is manufactured under USDA and HACCP guidelines on sterilized processing equipment. We take all measures to prevent contamination. Every person that enters the facility wears sterilized clothing and footwear, hair nets, and gloves. These strick practices have lead to a perfect record with NO product recalls.
Product Testing
We regularly test our foods for Salmonella, E. coli 0157:H7, & Campylobacter to ensure our products safety. We also test our foods for pesticides (our food sources are of such high quality that bacteria and
pesticide residues are very unlikely, but we love our pets too much to take any chances). We then flash freeze at -50 degrees our foods to eliminate the possibility of parasites.
Transport
Most Steve’s products require special handling delivering on freight trucks nationally to ensure continuous freezing at -27 degrees. We go to great efforts working with our transportation partners, distributors and retailers to minimize the opportunity for the product to defrost before making it to your freezer.
When thawed, our food loses its nugget / cube shape which is a great indicator of how it was transported. When a chub, or medallion is thawed for the same length of time it will retain its shape, leaving the customer unaware of how that product was transported. This could possibly pose a health risk.
Did you know Steve’s Real Foods is an Eco-Friendly Company?
We manufacture all our products in Oregon where we use Hydro-Electric Power. All our Steve’s packaging is recyclable; boxes, plastic and foil bags. Our Steve’s poly bags are made from polyester plastics with low-density polyethylene. These are some of the easiest to recycle with a plastic no. 4. Also, to produce raw foods uses much less energy than making most canned and kibble cooked pet foods. Read More
