Yes, when handled and stored at appropriate temperatures, frozen raw dog food is safe for you and your pet. It’s essential to follow safe food handling guidelines that basically boils down to a few essentials; keeping perishable food items in safe temperature ranges, and to wash your hands and pet bowls after each meal.
We do recommend defrosting the raw food before feeding. However, as long as your pet isn’t very old, very young, or experiencing health conditions, then it is okay to feed the food frozen.
Place the number of frozen patties needed in an airtight container in the fridge overnight to defrost. Each Steve’s Real Food patty is 6 inches long x 4 ½ inches wide x 1 inch thick. For serving the frozen nuggets, use a measuring cup or a scale to portion out the needed amount and place them in an airtight container in the fridge overnight.
Keep food frozen until ready to defrost or serve. When defrosting, place the food in an air-tight container and leave it in the refrigerator for 24 hours or until soft. Serve to your pet in a clean dish.
Frozen raw dog food can sit out of the fridge for a MAXIMUM of 2 hours at room temperature.
No, we don’t recommend microwaving frozen raw dog food as it contains bone that can become brittle when cooked, and microwaves deplete the raw nutrients very quickly.
Food is good until the expiration date listed on the raw dog food packaging, usually up to 1 year.
