Start with a clean, airtight container and portion your pet’s daily feeding amount into it. If feeding multiple times a day, divide the daily feeding amount by number of feedings per day.
Place the airtight container of raw food in the fridge overnight to thaw. *If you forget to thaw the food, you can add some warm water to the food or place the food in a bag submerged in warm water for a quick thaw.
Remove the thawed food from the fridge and serve it to your pet on a clean dish. Thoroughly wash your hands and sanitize all areas that come into contact with the raw food to promote a safe feeding environment.
Treat raw pet food with the same care as handling raw meat for your consumption. Always wash your hands, pet bowls, and any surfaces that come into contact with the raw food.
Each 20 lb box has two individually sealed 10lb bags, with 20 patties each (40 patties total).
Yes, You can pour warm water over the food, and mix it in to warm it up Another way is while the food is still in it’s container/baggie to slightly warm up the food before serving.
No, we don’t suggest cooking the food as high heat breaks down beneficial nutrients and because the food contains bone.
Yes, a dog’s digestive system is designed to be able to handle raw chicken meat, bones, and organs. People are often concerned that raw chicken can give their pet salmonella, but FDA has enacted a zero-tolerance level for Salmonella in pet food after the Food and Safety Modernization Act went into full effect in the U.S. This means that no detectable levels of salmonella is acceptable, and every batch of raw chicken pet food we make is tested for salmonella and other bacteria before being shipped out. This rule for pet food is even stricter than for chicken you buy in the grocery store, which allows the frequency of contaminated chicken parts to 15 percent or less. Even when companies wash chicken carcasses after slaughter, the USDA has found salmonella bacteria on about a quarter of all cut-up chicken parts heading for supermarket shelves.
We offer several diets of dog food without chicken, including our pork, lamu, turkey, and beef pet foods. All diets are available in both frozen and freeze-dried.
Yes, it is possible for dogs and cats to be allergic to chicken but not Turkey. Turkey is a different protein so a pet’s body that is allergic to the chicken protein may not be allergic to the turkey protein.
Chicken is one of the more common allergies, however, depending on the dog it could be an allergy to the highly processed kibble rather than the protein. We have many customers whose dogs are allergic to chicken-based dry food but do wonderfully on our raw chicken diet.
We NEVER use Chicken meal as an ingredient because meat meal is produced through a process using extreme heat and pressure that destroys enzymes, amino acids, and nutrients.

Rockie –
We have been on Steve’s food for a while now, but our 95 pound Doberman Apollo was ready to try something new. We decided to try the prey Chicken and we should have known… it was a hit! Apollo has been working very hard in training, and needed that extra boost in protein. The prey model is perfect and of course he loves it ( he is extremely picky when it comes to his food). In fact, he sits and waits as close as he can to the counter and drools all over me and the floor when I prepare the prey chicken patty for him. We can’t wait to try all the proteins in the prey models now!
